About the BMS

History of BMS

The British Menopause Society is a registered charity aimed at the medical profession and is open to healthcare professionals specialising in the menopause, including consultants, trainee gynaecologists, GP's and nursing professionals.

The society was founded in 1989 by F A Patterson, then Managing Director of the Royal Society of Medicine with Mr Tony Parsons as inaugural Chairman. It is dedicated to advancing education in all matters related to the Menopause, through lectures, conferences, meetings and exhibitions.

The Challenge of menopause management is increasing. As most British women can expect more than 30 years of post menopausal life, the consequences for immediate and long term healthcare are significant. The society aims to increase awareness of these healthcare issues and promote optimal management through its activities.
